Gay Marriage: Equality?

Gay Americans' risk of mistaking marriage equality for total equality
After the euphoria of Obama's support for same-sex marriage, let's check whether homophobia and discrimination just ended

Great piece in The Guardian online by Jason Farago on how enthusiasm for gay marriage shows some peoples' power of political delusion.

  1. For someone who does not care about it you dedicate a lot of your website to mentioning it. But you are right – that guardian article is a good piece. And your comments above serve as a good reminder that peoples pre-conceived opinions often bias information they absorb from a source.

Lets start by stating that ‘political delusion’ is your own wording and not taken from the article. Taken directly from the article however are…

“the president's support has value – I myself was waiting for it.”

“I don't mean to minimize marriage. It matters tremendously.”

“So, marriage is not just a nice private affair to which gay people want admission. It is a bedrock constitutional right, and perhaps the most basic sign of equality in this country (the US).”

Your commentary often reads as though you view life like a game of top-trumps.

Religious far-right bashes homosexuals. Homosexuals beat the ‘bourgeois’ conservative elite. The ‘bourgeois’ every one else all of the time.

I’m just not sure you are playing with a full deck.
