being what she describes as “an old soul” she was unsophisticated when
it
came to romance. She married her first husband, Richard Cromwell, when
she
was 19. He was a handsome leading man — charming, knowledgeable about
jazz,
and that interested her. He was quite a bit older, too. “I haven’t
thought
about it because the marriage was so brief,” she says. She tilts her

separated. “I knew how to act mature but I wasn’t,” she smiles
faintly,
referring to being in the dark about this. She found out only when it
was
about to be in the newspapers. A woman from MGM’s press office called
to let
her know...'
Angela Lansbury profiled in the Daily Telegraph.
