Word Of The Day: Ainderby Quernhow

"Ainderby Quernhow": One who continually bemoans the 'loss' of the word 'gay' to the English language, even though they had never used the word in any context at all until they started complaining they couldn't use it any more.

From Douglas Adam's The Meaning Of Liff - a dictionary of "things that there should be words for but aren't."
Next year Faber are publishing a new edition, Afterliff, compiled by his friends and family.

PS Illustration from the very amusing Homobilia blog.

PPS Brilliant Kids In The Hall sketch - 'Why did they have to take the word gay?'
