Tories: Nasty

"David Cameron has been warned that his attempts to shed the Conservative Party's "nasty party" image are being undermined by organisers of a mass rally against gay marriage. About 900 people, the majority of them active members of the Conservative Party, will crowd into Birmingham Town Hall at lunchtime today to hear the former Archbishop of Canterbury, George Carey, the former Home Office minister Ann Widdecombe and others give speeches on why there should be no change in the legal definition of marriage to recognise same-sex couples."

The Independent continues its mea culpa over its previously hopeless coverage of gay news - by being ever more hopeless.

PS How creepy and freaky would someone have to be to go to a meeting against gay marriage, FFS?

Update: Trying to find out what happened here. "Reports" just quote from statements already released by Carey, David Davis et al. Beginning to wonder if it actually happened, and if it did whether anyone actually turned up...

Update 2: According to The Guardian there were only 400 people there. Seems to have been a disaster - hurrah! The usual suspects now going mental on Twitter about Lord Carey's "Nazis" comment, or rather about a slight distortion of this mad old homophobe's words.
