The Tory Case For Gay Marriage
There is a Tory case for marriage reform which is becoming lost in this ill-tempered debate.
Graeme Archer writing on the Telegraph's blog.
What a strange piece!
I'm pretty sure this is the first article on gay marriage the Telegraph has run that argues for gay marriage.
Certainly in the last three months, when they've run one story almost every other day against gay marriage.
Though note this one is not in the print edition, it's online only.
And I could be wrong, but I think Graeme Archer only came out to Telegraph readers last month here.
And I'm pretty sure he's their first out columnist.
And though it begins with Mr Archer saying he's not going on (Saturday's) Pride march "today", it only appeared online and is dated late Tuesday afternoon.
And by golly, there's a heck of a lot of waffle to wade through.
Loads of baffling guff about the church, and lots of the usual gay Right's "anti-gay" bashing away at the Left and anything "gay"; gay Pride, the "gay lobby", "gay columnists", the "gay vote", blah blah blah...
I assure you "The Tory Case For Gay Marriage" is buried in there somewhere in the middle.
All two sentences of it.
"Marriage is our most valuable institution
because it civilises men, turning oat-sowers into dependable partners.
To
draw more people into the locus of stability is a worthy Tory
objective."
Well, there you go.
SNORE!

I think there may have been an earlier version of this that went up on their site but was taken down...
