Britain is now recognised as the best place in Europe for LGBT rights, and the Pride events that take place across this country each year to celebrate the LGBT community help show why this is the case.
This Government is committed to advancing equality for LGBT people, and
last year we published two action plans setting out an ambitious range of actions we will take to promote LGBT rights at home and abroad.
We also believe that society is stronger when people enter into a stable relationship and commit to each other, and if a couple love each other and want to commit to a life together, they should have the option of getting married. This is why we were proud to publish a consultation on allowing this to happen...
Yours sincerely,
Prime Minister, Rt Hon David Cameron MP
Deputy Prime Minister, Rt Hon Nick Clegg MP
Letter of support for Brighton Pride.
Far be it from me to suggest this was actually written by some policy wonk, but it's interesting it uses some of the exact same phrases as one "written" by Lynne Featherstone.
Two brief points...
1. "We also believe that society is stronger when people enter into a
stable relationship and commit to each other..."
How does this work exactly? If gay men want to slut around and/or be single who are you to tell them that's a lesser life? And why is it better if you're a couple to get your relationship sanctioned by the state?
2. "This is why we were proud to publish a consultation on allowing this
to happen..."
Note absence now of any pledge to bring it into law.
Still - Happy Pride!
