I always really like it when Radio 4 starts signing off with this before the last shipping forecast.

    Ah, the wonderfully-named Ronald Binge.

    But I read somewhere that the music originally had nothing to do with seafaring ... that it was used for a TV documentary about a balloon race.

    Binge's other famous piece is Elizabethan Serenade which I personally find very irritating.
