Christopher And His Kind: Christopher Who?

I like the way the cover of the new Radio Times - "Your actual quality guide..." - operates on the assumption that no-one will know nor care who this Christopher Isherwood bloke is that Matt Smith's playing in this TV drama, only that the Dr gets "Naked" and "sexy"...

Update: On Friday, several of the broadsheets profiled Smith and/or Isherwood.
Best headline: 'Nudity, Nazis and the Doctor' - The Daily Mail, natch.
The Mail's best question: "So IS he worried some Doctor Who fans might be horrified when they see their hero playing a dissolute boulevardier?"
Translation: "So IS he worried some Doctor Who fans might be horrified when they see their hero playing a poof?"
"No, because it’s just pretend," Matt Smith explained helpfully.

  1. That's kind of its two most bankable aspects though, I guess: Matt Smith... naked!
Matt Smith, Matt Smith naked, and Christopher Isherwood are all appealing to me, so I cannot wait to see this! :)

  2. Have you seen the (longer) trailer they put out last year?

It looks quite good - and ever so bold!
I think it'll be like Cabaret, only without the tip-top tunes, obviously - and with bumming.

  3. I hadn't seen that other trailer. Thanks!
It does look really good. It's also got Toby Jones in it who played Truman Capote in Infamous - the other Capote film that came out a couple of months after Capote (oops!).
I guess Isherwood is kind of fashionable now, after the Tom Ford film of A Single Man (which wasn't great, imo - despite having Nicholas Hoult in the nip).

  5. I can't watch it till it's on the BBC i-Player as I don't have a TV licence.
I like the idea of people BREAKING THE LAW BREAKING THE LAW, but - like Noam Chomsky and traffic lights - think commonly agreed boundaries have their place.
    Seriously.

  6. Oh. Ok.
It's been pretty good, so far.
Performances aren't great. Several cocks. Pretty boys galore. Stuff about the nazis... :)

  7. The teenage street sweeper - does he have a nice cock?
That's the deal breaker for me...

  8. Haven't seen it yet [sadface]. Isherwood has only just met him in the last 10 minutes.
I'm sure the actor who plays the street sweeper is the same who played Boy George in that BBC thing last year...

  9. Yes. They said that was him who did that.

  10. ^ He's a good actor, though.

    Just finished!
Hmmm... it was okay, I think. Not great as drama or anything, but as I said plenty of man-candy.
It was really bold, though. Might be the boldest gay thing on TV since Queer As Folk. At least the first half.
If you watch it, tell us what you think...
