The ‘God Hates Fag’ church caused a ‘social media frenzy’ when it shared a picture of Ryan Zamo kissing his fiancé in front of The Equality House across the street from the churches headquarters in Topeka, Kansas.

As fellow church members commented on and shared the picture, it quickly started to trend on Instagram and resulted in a ‘massive influx of sales’ to Zamo’s online skincare business.

‘It really didn’t bother me that much. We thought it was actually funny that it was becoming so popular, but neither my fiancé nor I are the types to retaliate, it wasn’t anything to be up in arms about,’ said Ryan Zamo, CEO of Z Skin Cosmetics.

‘We actually sent them a package with some of our Z Skin Cosmetics anti-aging, acne and hair products, after all they did drive massive sales for our site, it’s the least we could do.’

Sorry!!? Where was this picture posted? What 'social media frenzy'? How would anyone know who was in the photo? Or that they ran a cosmetics firm?

Russell Brand: The Revolution Will Not Be...

Russell Brand may have become the poster boy for people who love politics but hate politicians.

Tonight, however, he was forced into an old-fashioned political retreat when he cancelled a debate to launch his new book after guests including the leading human rights campaigner Peter Tatchell expressed concerns about the make-up of the panel.

Activist Laurence Easeman, who appeared with Brand on a recent video to highlight the plight of an under-threat community in London’s East End, had been due to join the panel at London’s Hoxton Docks to discuss the issues raised byRevolution – the comic’s treatise on the travails of the modern British body politic.

Mr Tatchell said he flagged up concerns with Brand having been alerted to a series of blog postings by others which, if accurate, would suggest that he and Mr Easeman may not share all the same political views...

God Loves Gays: Really?

A crowdsourcing campaign has been launched to erect a year-long billboard reading 'God loves gays' in the Westboro Baptist Church's hometown.

Although this is clearly tongue-in-cheeks, a few points to bear (bare?) in mind...

1. Westboro Baptist Church thrive on publicity, so they'll almost certainly love this.

2. God doesn't exist.

3. Even if he did he's a genocidal megalomaniac, so it's best not to take him as your moral compass.

4. There are a lot more productive ways of spending $50,000 to fight homophobia and improve gay people's lives.

Fred Phelps: Not In Kansas Anymore

I'm proud to say he took against me from the moment we met. I asked him how many children he had. He disliked this question – I think he found me trivial. The interview was cut short. Over subsequent days, we continued filming but I hardly saw him. I had the feeling he was hiding from me. Westboro Baptist Church: God Hates Fred

Phelps Sr., 84, began to make headlines over the weekend after his estranged son Nathan posted a note to Facebook where he said the pastor is currently in hospice care and was excommunicated from the organization for reasons that remain unclear. As twisted as it may be, his daughter Margie (who is a part of the WBC) said on Twitter the hate-fueled organization would definitely be at his funeral, if only to picket.

“My dad Pastor Fred Phelps is a hell bound f*g enabling whore,” she shockingly wrote on Twitter Sunday evening. “#Westboro Baptist Church to protest this whores Funeral.” Margie had nothing but revulsion to spread in regards to her father’s ailing health. She added he is “now a hell bound whore.”

Speculation as to why he was excommunicated is rampant on the Internet, with some assuming the WBC members found out Phelps was actually gay and others thinking he might have had a change in heart as his health declined. There’s no definite answer as of now...

A little girl decided to fight the hatred being spread by the Westboro Baptist Church by setting up a lemonade stand across the street and raising money to promote peace instead.
Jayden Sink, five, is the daughter of Jon Sink, who set up charity arts group FRESHCASSETTE. She raised around $1,000 despite the efforts of the Westboro Baptist church to shut her down by calling the police and yelling abuse.

To celebrate the Lord's Day, BBC2 is showing Louis Theroux: America's Most Hated Family In Crisis tonight.
Louis Theroux writes about his decision to make a second film about the fun-loving "God Hates Fags" Westboro Baptist Church on BBC News;
"Normally I don't do follow-ups. But I'd made an exception in this case because of an e-mail I'd received from one of the fire-breathing young zealots I'd interviewed on my first trip, announcing she'd left the church. She cited our conversations as one of the influences.
"She had now changed her life, found a boyfriend and had zero contact with anyone still inside the church, including her family. A little research revealed that several others I'd met on my first visit were also now apostates. This included Steve's own daughter, Lauren..."
Theroux acknowldges that "the Phelpses thrive on publicity" - why else would they let him make another film - and there are many American journalists who believe the best policy is to ignore these attention-seeking whores of babylon.
Fagburn believes they are such a good/bad ad for evangelical Christianity we should drown them in the oxygen of publicity.
I bet the Phelps family's international infamy inspired Terry Jones, the nuts Koran-burning US pastor.
Or as The Daily Telegraph neatly summed him up in a headline yesterday; 'Pastor Terry Jones: A homophobic used furniture salesman with a love of controversy'
