Suicide: Does It Get Better?

A mother has called for a ban on suicide websites after an inquest heard that her son researched how to take his own life on the web after suffering homophobic bullying.

Ayden Keenan-Olson, 14, was found dead in his bed by his father, Tim Olson, at the family home in Colchester, Essex, on 14 March. He had taken an overdose of prescription drugs and left two suicide notes outlining the homophobic and racist bullying he had experienced at the Philip Morant School, an inquest in Chelmsford heard.

After his death, Ayden’s mother, the author and prominent child abuse campaigner Shy Keenan, said he had been “bullied to death”.

A police investigation found that, in the month leading up to his death, Ayden had bypassed settings on his computer to research suicide methods on the internet.

Mrs Keenan told the inquest yesterday: “My job is to protect kids online but I could not keep my own son safe.”

Savage: The Nazi terror wasn’t the Holocaust in a day. There was a gradual escalation of scapegoating, anti-Semitism, and political violence. No one is comparing what’s being done to LGBT Russians to what was done to the Jews in 1943 and 1942 and 1944. But it is eerily similar to what was being done to the Jews in Nazi Germany in 1933 and 1934. The initial persecution campaigns, the stigmatization, the codification into law of anti-Semitism and this kind of bigotry. All of those parallels are identical.

A gay man, who was openly gay, has died after drowning in a tidal wave of sentimental vomit, Fagburn can reveal.
Although as yet unconfirmed by doctors, who are openly gay, it is thought this may be another teen suicide related to the sheer pukey awfulness of all those It Gets Better videos posted on YouTube.
Doctors say this exercise in vanity and insincerity may have finally pushed him over the edge.
"We just don't understand this," said his friend, Steve, a gay man who is openly, openly gay.
"He seemed really happy with whatever he was given.
"He always liked watching those YouTube videos they post on gay websites where some posh high school kids do one of those unbelievably fucking annoying flashbomb things to a Lady Gaga song, or ones of some hired killers in Afghanistan lipsynching to Call Me Maybe.
"It's not like he didn't see enough photos of rich gaymarried couples having fun in a park with their trophy baby, either.
"Gay wedding dances, people who film their own coming out and post it online - so brave! - he adored them all.
"And those gay soldier dudes who did bumming - he loved them, too.
"This - quite literally - makes no sense."
