ReplyDeleteWhen BBC radio news led on Christmas Day with the Archbp of Westminster's latest condemnations, I could, as an ex-journalist, just about go along with that in so far as it was Controversy.
ReplyDeleteBut what really went beyond the pale was the newsreader's adding that Nichols was urging people to write to their MPs in protest. That really is turning the BBC into Nichols' messenger-boy. Is the news editor a member of Opus Dei?

ReplyDeleteI understand you feel the BBC’s coverage of the same-sex marriage proposals is biased against civil partnerships.
In dealing with any controversial matter the BBC is required to give a fair and balanced report. Balance cannot simply be judged on the basis of the time allocated to the story or either side of an argument however. Account also needs to be taken of the way a subject is covered over a period of time; perfect balance is difficult to achieve on every single occasion while overall it is a more achievable goal.
Nevertheless your feedback is very valuable to the BBC as it can help shape decisions about future programming and content.
