Hans Scholl: February 22

"The name of Germany is dishonoured for all time if German youth does not finally rise, take revenge, smash its tormentors. Students! The German people look to us."

Hans Scholl, with his sister Sophie, founded the White Rose movement to try and resist the Nazis.
They were arrested and then both beheaded on February 22nd 1943.
He worked underground, and didn't send out press releases about himself.
Hans was a true gay revolutionary.
His last words were; "Es lebe die freiheit!" - "Long live freedom!"

  1. Are there any good books that cover this and them in detail?
I was reading that the story has been heavily mythologised by their sister?

  2. Yes, there are many sources, including my own book, SOPHIE SCHOLL & THE WHITE ROSE (Oneworld, 2006/7). I also discovered & wrote about Hans Scholl's arrest for a teen same-sex relationship, something which finally provides the answer to why he & his sister transformed from Hitler Youth leaders to the greatest heroes of the German anti-Nazi resistance. Please see two sources: Jud Newborn: http://www.judnewborn.com/jud-solvingmysteries.html and http://www.amazon.com/Sophie-Scholl-White-Rose-Newborn/dp/1851685367
