Apropos of nothing beyond the fact I found this interesting and haven't seen it anywhere else, here is a chart from The Economist showing Americans' views on gay marriage broken down by religious belief (Judeo-Christian only, oddly) or the lack of it.
"For the first time since the Pew Research Centre began conducting polls on the subject in 1995, fewer than half of Americans (48%) are opposed to gay marriage, while 42% are in favour..."

I think this will become a reality. The challenge for the gays is what to do next, because after this debate is settled the community will find it hard to focus on one struggle.
