Peter Whittle, who is himself gay, told lifestyle magazine Winq that “gay rights” should not actually be associated with the political left wing.
“There are a lot of gay people active in politics, a disproportionate amount. I think that’s for sure, I don’t know why… and they’re more on the centre-right than on the left,” he said.
“Fact of the matter is the left have captured the idea that somehow they are the gay rights part of the political spectrum, but, in fact, there are more gay people on the right.” ...
A voting intention poll conducted for the website PinkNews found the Conservatives and Labour neck-and-neck on 29 per cent in March 2015.
Additionally, 20 per cent of people in that poll intended to vote for the Green Party, 19 per cent for the Liberal Democrats, and 2 per cent for Ukip.
The results of that poll appear to contradict Mr Whittle’s perception that gay people are more right-wing – with both the Conservatives and Ukip scoring significantly higher amongst the UK’s general population...
Independent.
Only 29% said
they intended to vote Conservative, and this is almost certainly
unrepresentaive as so much of Pink News journalism appeals to right-wing
gay men.

Well sort of, but while only 29% said/clicked that they intended to vote Conservative, this can hardly be said to be representive as so much of the what Pink News publishes clearly appeals to right-wing gay men. It's like extrapolating something about UK voting trends from a Mail Online survey.
And judging by Pink News' message boards - despite what they say - it's rather popular with LGBT Ukip-types (though PN is rather over-obsessed with slagging them off).
Fagburn can't recall ever seeing a survey that doesn't indicate gay men are more left-wing and liberal than the general population.
Mind you, I can't recall a gay survey that didn't look totally shonky and ropey, so I'm not sure what that tells us.
PS Older readers may recall Ukip's 2004 candidate for London Mayor. Oops.
PPS The Winq's hard-hitting (*sarcasm*) interview is by leading 'gay ex-soldier' and Toryboy, James Wharton, and is too grim for words.
Don't miss @jameswharton's interview with @prwhittle, #UKIP's London mayoral candidate: http://t.co/8f21Q5cKch pic.twitter.com/RIDV9cyr0Y

Whittle looks even more brain-dead than James Wharton.
ReplyDeleteHow on Earth is Wharton still "working" in the media???
Most gay tories I've seen do have a kind of blank look on their faces, like there's no one home. It's quite striking.
The reason why the left are mainly seen as the gay rights section of the spectrum should be self-evident. The fact that the Tories were actively and publicly campaigning against Labour in the late-'80s on the grounds that Labour were pro-gay rights and that this was bad for the kids is enough to show why these fucking morons don't know their arse from their elbow, socially, politically or historically.
I saw someone on a gay forum the other week arguing that Thatcher was always pro-gay because she voted to decriminalise the bum sex when she was an MP.
Oh, she didn't think we were criminals!?
Step aside, Harvey Milk!!!
Twats.

DeleteRemember Pink News argued this made her a 'gay icon' when she died?
LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
