Emotionally potent over-simplifications, devoid of cultural and political context, make great TV!
This Dispatches programme was basically pornography.
Hope you had a good emotional/literal wank.
These attacks preceded the new "propaganda" law.
Those who carry them out are hunted and then prosecuted - here's one from Monday.
Obviously no gay man in the USA has recently been killed in a hate crime - which is a bit worse than being pissed on.
Though it's usually about 25-30 men a year.
Why not make a shocking Channel 4 documentary about that?

Your link is to an article about the prosecution of a murder. Where is your evidence that attacks like those shown in the Dispatches programme are reported to the police, vigorously investigated and prosecuted?
ReplyDeleteYou might find gay men being attacked and intimidated sexually exciting, but I don't think this programme was pornography. Of course, vile homophobic people exist in the West, but I doubt they would be so keen to go on camera boasting about their law breaking. Russia is hoping to gain international prestige through hosting the Olympics and so its entirely legitimate to make programmes like this. Do you think the incidents were staged or that Russia is some kind of gay paradise? What the fuck is wrong with you?
ReplyDeleteNo one in the west would be keen to go on camera? Well, the New South Wales Police in Sydney, Australia didn't seem to be camera shy when they brutalised an 18 year old at last year's Lesbian and Gay Mardi Gras, of all places. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OMeOy1aR_uA
ReplyDeleteThe police did attempt to stop that attack being filmed. You clearly watched the short version. While some of the coverage of Russia is hysterical, implying that Australia is just as bad is nonsense. If I was a gay Russian. I'd be less bothered by people making tokenistic protests, than those making light of the situation in the country and suggesting that a documentary showing homophobic attacks "lacks context" and is pornography. I'm beginning to wonder whether you wouldn't find more compassion for gay victims at a UKIP convention than this blog.
DeleteOf course, the last video link showed how the police tried to make it look like that it was the 18 year old's fault. Well, the police only two weeks ago dropped the charges of assault, and the police officer who smashed the 18 year old has been given a desk job while some internal police investigation is carried out, and considering what happened with the Mark Duggan case, it's highly unlikely this police officer will be facing time. Boycott Australia like Russia?
ReplyDeleteErr. It's not systematic for police to do this in Australia. Do you refute that there are 30+ Occupy Paedophilia groups in Russia?
