    And yet... When I was a boy growing up and discovering how lovely were other boys growing up, I shared with them membership of a criminal underclass. I could never have imagined the Leader of the Free World rebuking the President of Russia/the Soviet Union for his homophobia and the President defending himself against a charge of homophobia, if only by protesting that "some of my best friends are gay".
