Fagburn: In The Absence Of News

Via OFalafel.

By 9pm last night this was the lead story on BBC Radio 4 News.

Was the suspension of a local councillor who 472 people voted for (!!!) really the biggest story of the day?

Hey-ho...
PS Nigel Farage criticises the media reaction to Ukip town councillor David Silvester's claim that recent floods were caused by gay marriage. The Ukip leader says coverage of the event was disproportionate considering Silvester's low status in the party and claims members of the other three parties do not receive such intense scrutiny. Sorry, but the right-wing cunt is kinda right this time.

  1. Looking at it from the point of view of my 17- or 18-year-old self, who suffered under headlines like the Daily Mirror's How To Spot A Possible Homo at the time of the Vassall affair, a change to lead stories which ridicule anti-gay sentiment would have seemed impossibly wonderful to me. So it's worth noting in a meta-headline sorta way.
