Smash Hits Is Back! Back!! BACK!!!

Brian McCloskey - "a pale skinny Irish transvestite with great hair" - is archiving (almost) every single issue of Smash Hits on the blog Like Punk Never Happened.
How swingoriliant is that!?
If all goes to plan, a new issue will appear online each fortnight, 30 years after it appeared in the shops.
It'll be a while til we reach Smash Hits glory days of the mid to late 80s, when it was basically written by a coterie of queens; Ian Cranna, Chris Heath, Tom Hibbert, Dave Rimmer, Neil Tennant...
Some of these queens may be straight queens, of course.
At the time of typing we're about a year and a half in - July 10-23 1980.
Fagburn's selected highlights; Dexys, Human League, Roxy Music, Darts, Fred and Judy Vermorel, Village People, AC/DC...
I have such fond memories of "The Hits" - if not the best, then certainly the funniest music magazine of all time.
Smash Hits ripped the piss out of everyone and everything - recognising and rejoicing in the fact that pop music and pop stars are every bit as wonderfully ridiculous as they are ridiculously wonderful.
These days much of the music press is so snoozesome it reads like it could have been written by the press officer - so polite, so positive, so "objective", so deferential, so fawning.
It's like Smash Hits never happened.
