Fidel Castro: The World Won't Listen
Most media were so struck by the news that Fidel Castro gave a rare TV interview on Monday - "It's alive!" - that they barely mentioned what he said.
But same as it ever was.
If Castro decided to come out of virtual seclusion to do this - his first since he fell ill four years ago - then it's safe to assume what he wanted to say would have had some import.
It does.
The interview with Castro was meant as a warning; the US and Israel are gearing up for military action against Iran, and this could lead to a nuclear war.
He drew a direct parallel between the present situation and the Cuban Missile Crisis; "We have experiences of being close to it [nuclear war]. Now I believe the threat of war has greatly increased. They [the US] are playing with fire."
He's not alone in fearing this; Noam Chomsky - who Castro quotes in the video - makes much the same argument in an article in the new issue of Z Magazine.
And today the Oxford Research Group releases a new report; 'Military Action Against Iran: Impact and Effects'.
Its author, Professor Paul Rogers, warns; "The potential for an Israeli military strike on Iran over its nuclear programme has grown sharply, but its consequences would be devastating and would lead to a long war."
