Pride London: Let's Print Any Old Bollocks!
If there's one thing Fagburn has learned in his life, it's that if you ever see a big round figure - like one billion people watching LIve8 or ABBA being offered a billion pounds to reform - it's almost certainly made up.
The BBC News website was not alone in claiming that "up to an estimated one million people are in London to take part in the annual Pride celebrations" - a fiction made up by the organisers of Pride London on their official statement, oddly before Pride London had actually taken place.
Rather cutely, the BBC keep changing their story. At one point "million" was put in quotation marks - or was it ironic quote marks?
At my time of typing the headline on the story reads; "Thousands take part in London's Pride celebrations" - a slightly more honest estimate.
Don't be surprised if next year Pride London declare a billion people are expected to take part, and every one in the media just reprint it cause it sounds good.
Journalism - sure beats working.
