Ender's Game: Dead End

Summit’s Ender’s Game has found a powerful ally in the LGBT community. Dustin Lance Black is asking LGBT activists calling for a boycott of the movie to put their efforts elsewhere.
“There's so much good to be done right now,” Black wrote on his Facebook page Saturday. “Boycotting a movie made by 99% lgbt equality folks in an lgbt equality industry is a waste of our collective energy. Making one phone call to a relative in the south who isn't quite there yet would be 1000 times more effective.”
The sci-fi film has come under fire because of the anti-gay views of Ender's Game author Orson Scott Card, who has a history of opposing same-sex marriage and gay rights.

Hollywood Reporter.

Well said, lovely Dustin.
Or as I prefer to think of you Mrs Dustin Lance Fagburn.
This Orson Scott Card sure sounds like a homophobic arsehole - it's not a (thought) crime.
Typically the call for a boycott has come from one of those silly online petitions.
Oh, deliver us from anti-gay Christers and gay hysterics!

PS In the novel, Ender's Game, mankind is at war with an alien insectoid species called... the Buggers.

Update: Hilariously hysterical piece in the Guardian online; 'As a gay 'nerd', I don't want my money going to benefit homophobic Ender's Game author Orson Scott Card in any way'.
Thanks for that - I expect both Hollywood and homophobia to collapse any day now.

  2. The boycott isn’t merely because of Card’s views. It’s because he is on the board of and funds groups campaigning against gay rights across America. Card gets money as the author, the screen-writer and the producer of this film, so money from this film will flow towards homophobic organisations. That’s what the boycotters don’t want. If it weren’t for that then Card would be just another loon, with his weird tendencies to write about schoolboys showering, and how homosexuality is spread by paedophiles, and his major case of gayface.
