  1. Er ... ? If it's supposed to be funny I don't get the joke.

  3. Fagburn, I don't know what you find funny-is it the very notion that same sex couples are just like the heterosexual ones?
If so, why be behind same sex marriage? If you find the idea that same sex couples are just like heterosexual ones ridiculous, then why the need to treat them as being the same?
The only logical stance is this: they're the same as heterosexual relationships-and that means good and bad, or they are fundamentally different and should not be treated in same way.
I'm not saying that you feel this way, but I think that a lot of heterosexual people are so disillusioned with their own relationships that they are now projecting their hopes of good relationships upon same sex marriage. In effect, gay people will have the burden of keeping the romantic dream alive.
Await the het backlash with the same sex divorce.

  4. The funniest thing about the cartoon is it's so lame, and manages to stereotype straight couples and The Gays.

  5. The cartoon's not that bad.
He could have drawn them as two non-descript individual men, but the central joke is pretty weak and a total cliche now, so the temptation to draw them in a stereotypical short-hand, as it's both easier and adds another level of humour (at least to some people), was probably irresistable.
It's not funny, but it's not a bad cartoon.

  6. It's refreshing to know that somewhere out there are straight people who think gays always wear crop tops. Keep up the good work, boys.

  7. I'm disappointed this insightful look at modern domestic gay life doesn't include a small dog somewhere.

  8. It's just a cartoonist's shorthand, though.
It's not supposed to be insightful.
And the vast majority of cartoons in papers are weak, unfunny shit anyway; so this is hardly news, FAGBURN!!!

  9. If I remember rightly the same artist used to do a cartoon strip for Private Eye called "The Gays" which ran for several years in the 1980s

  10. Oh yes.
See the section "Pooves' in the book Private Eye: The First 50 Years.

    1. As you are a younger reader, I may have to remind you this was the 80s, when jokes about "The Gays" couldn't be laughed off quite so lightly.

      But anyway HAHAHAH! etc.

    2. I know, that was why I said "blimey", as in 'blimey, what an offensive joke for the time'.
