Wasn't it funny in September when all the media said Tom was straight.
And it was a made-up quote!!!
Was he outed by being inned?
"But I was misquoted and it made me feel angry and very frustrated.
"For me, honesty is something that I really do believe in. I have always been honest. I may have been vague, but I have always been honest."
Tabloid in making up quote shock!
Surprised so many people fell for this bollocks in the Sunday Mirror.
Well, I'm not that surprised - most journalists are lazy idiots.
It's your birthday, Richard!
ReplyDeleteOne point. You are an older guy who is at ease with his sexuality and who has the comfort of relative obscurity (no offence). That's great. Tom Daley is a nineteen year old who has been put in a very scrutinised (and salivated over) public position and quizzed incessantly about his private life. I hope there's nothing snide in that 'still fancies girls' bit - perhaps he really does also like girls or perhaps he's finding his way gradually to identifying publicly as gay.
I suspect we are all glad that Tom Daley now has a chance to be whoever he is with less pressure. It took me years to get there, and in my experience mad-eyed, finger-pointing Gayfinder Generals really do not help the process along. If anything they make it harder. When I was much younger and first went out on the scene I found the intense, almost accusatory nosiness of some gay guys quite off-putting.
Perhaps I'm reading too much into your reference, but you have posted quite a lot along the lines of nudge-nudging about Tom Daley's sexuality. That may be fun but at a certain point it's not really kind or understanding and is a bit cruel.
BTW I am the same anonymous who posted criticisms of you on Russia and Putin etc. recently. Even if I really don't agree with much you say, I do quite enjoy reading your posts. Some are very funny. Kudos to you for making the effort with this blog. All the best.
Sorry if previous comment seemed a bit ponderous and po-faced. I was thinking aloud and it wasn't especially meant as a pop at you, Richard.
