After last year's debacle of giving the Mercury Music Prize to the dreadful Speech Debelle, Fagburn thinks this year it'll probably go to The xx.
Mainly to show that Simon Frith and the gang are still down with the kids - but also because the last time the judge's picked someone who by common consent was actually a deserved winner they went for the nominee who was the most polymorphous perverse, Antony and The Johnsons.
And the unwritten subtext of pretty much everything written about The xx is that they're, you know, a bit "polymorphous perverse".
And who knows? Maybe they'll actually come out if they win.
Though part of me thinks a bit of horse-trading and arm-twisting could make the judges go for the "We've got to give it to someone everyone's heard of this year" option... Paul Weller.
Which would be quite boring.
