Whether or not Nézet-Séguin is the first gay conductor of a “big five” band, he is certainly the first one happy to talk about it. “But I’m not accusing anyone else — it’s up to everyone to choose their own road.” He says he is heartened by the changes he has seen in America on gay rights since he was appointed to Philadelphia in 2010 and the gradual extension of gay marriage to more US states.
