  1. Great to see. I must admit I always found KW to be absolutely charming. He is greatly missed.

  2. Surely it's 1974? Look at him on Joan Rivers' show in 1986. He is way older and greyer.

    1. But Russell didn't have a chat show then - also the diaries say Kenny was worried about going into a rapid decline in his last years. x

    2. I think it's 1973. First mention of Russell Harty interview in the diaries is 31st October, 1973. Then a year later he's asked by Harty if the interview can be published. There is absolutely no way it's 1984, dearie. xx

    3. Russell Harty Plus ran on ITV from 1972. That clip is for sure mid-70s.

  3. That's my absolute favourite Kenneth Williams interview. I watch it every few months or so.
It's interesting when he says that bit about his dad always going on about "trade"; he gets the laugh and responds to it quite warmly; but after that Russell Harty makes a similarly knowing joke about the audience all being doms and KW kind of shuts him down very coolly, because you can see him suddenly become very curt and I think Russell Harty notices this because he responds in a more methodical way than he had been up to that point.
I've always wondered if KW shut him down because he was very careful not to go too far down the gay joke route or if he was unhappy with Harty getting a bigger gasp from the audience.
