Whatever Pope Francis seemed to be saying [about not judging The Gays and that], whatever he may himself think he meant, he was really saying: “We may have got this wrong.” Maybe his views have been affected by his own observation of the extent of undeclared homosexuality among the priesthood. The logician in me says: “Hypocrites!” A wiser voice says: “Thank heavens so many have not practised what they preached; taking note of the practice, this Pope will perhaps now revisit the preaching.”
When in the 1970s it began to be fashionable to say that, while homosexuality might be a pity, tolerance demanded a kinder approach, the logician in me said: “No. With child molesters we do not ‘tolerate’. Make the positive moral case for same-sex love, don’t burble about tolerance.” Then a wiser voice said: “Thank heavens opinion is moving and people are disapproving less. Equality can come later.”
Matthew Parris in The Times.
Funny thing about Mr Parris, he quite often seems to be making perfect sense, but then he'll go and spoil it all by saying something stupid that reminds you he's Margaret Thatcher's bastard gay lovechild.
