Robert Lindsay, the star of BBC comedy My Family, has retold the story of the reaction of his parents when he said he wanted to join the trade. Lindsay, who comes from a working class family in an East Midlands mining village, was greeted with the unequivocal response from his father: "Why not go right over the bloody top and be a hairdresser?"
Via Media Guardian.
Lindsay said this at the Cheltenham Literary Festival yesterday- the story is from the Telegraph but is not online.
