Isis: The Gay Jihadist?

Police and prosecutors attempted to keep the identity and possible homosexuality of a British jihadist a secret to protect his human rights, it can be reported today.

Officers and the Crown Prosecution Service were concerned that should details surrounding Aseel Muthana emerge during a trial of his friends who helped him join Isil it would put his life at risk.

They believed they still had a duty of care under human rights laws to protect the teenager, even though he had run off to join a terror group intent on attacking this country.

The concerns centred on a series of text messages between Muthana, now 19, and Forhad Rahman, 21, who helped pay for him to travel to the war zone in February 2014.

Language in the messages left their “sexuality open to interpretation” after Rahman described Cardiff man Muthana as a “Welsh cutie”.

The pair only met online two months before Muthana left but formed a “profound emotional closeness" and called each other “cutie”, “honey” and “babe” in messages.

With Isil known to murder gay men and women, prosecutors initially discussed the need for reporting restrictions either on Muthana’s name or the details of the messages.

Muthana’s brother Nasser was already in Syria and later appeared in one of Isil’s first propaganda videos in which he encouraged others to join him.

In the end, it could not be ascertained whether Muthana was gay or not and the evidence was not subject to any court order...

Not sure why the Express are running this today - the quotes and photos are taken from a 2009 PBS TV documentary, The Dancing Boys Of Afghanistan.

Though 'Muslims equal paedos' is of course a familar Express riff.

But I guess it's been dug up following their silly story on Monday claiming ISIS is secretly a pederastic 'Gay Cult'.

ISIS: A Fairy Story

The 15-year-old victim was thrown to his death off a high building in Deir ezzor province in Syria after being sentenced to death by an Islamic court.

According to Islamic State’s radical interpretation of Sharia law, homosexuality is considered an offence punishable by death.

A witness said the execution took place in public, in front of a large gathering of local civilians in the area.

The ISIS commander who raped him is believed to be Abu Zaid al-Jazrawi, who previously appeared in a video showing child soldiers executing prisoners in a sickening twist on the game of hide and seek.

Al-Jazrawi was reportedly flogged and sent to fight on the frontline in Iraq as punishment.

His actions add creedence to some analysts' claims that homosexuality, coupled with self-loathing, is rife among ISIS fighters.

Their apparent extreme machismo and violence is considered to be a front to cover their sexual desire for men, and homosexual acts are reportedly commonplace on the Daesh frontline.

Media activist Sarai al-Din said: “The boy was accused of being engaged in a homosexual relation with the prominent ISIS officer.

“[The ISIS militant leader] was forced to leave Syria and join the fighting fronts in northwestern Iraq.

"The decision has been taken by the ISIS leadership.” ...

This story has appeared in most media - though this vulgar Freudian analysis appears to be the Express's own* - the source is one quote in this article in ARA News.

Not one has asked 'meda activist Sarai al-Din' what evidence he has, or how he would know this.

Fagburn has not found any evidence he exists yet, but will keep looking...

* There's an interesting connection between Islamism and machismo, and pederasty has been documented in other fundamentalist muslim cultures, but the much-repeated belief that 'the biggest homophobes are secretly gay' is utter tosh.

Update: Tim Teeman writes a thoughtful piece about the Islamism/pederasty paradox for The Daily Beast, but takes the above news story as a fact, and some might ask if it's correct to use 'gay' here.

Artist Paul Coombs came out as the man behind the 'ISIS Dildo Flag' on Sunday June 28th.

Well done to any media who claimed reporting this was somehow an 'EXCLUSIVE!'

I spent the morning of London’s Pride parade hand-stitching dildos onto a flag.

I’d been using the sex-toy motif in my work before I made a flag of Isis out of them and brought it to the march. Previously, I’ve attached dildos onto postcards from each country where homosexuality is still illegal to point out that the laws of these places regards its gay residents as mere sex objects.

The decision to make the flag was a simple one: a sense of outrage at Isis’s brutal advance across North Africa, Libya, Syria and Iraq. Medieval ideologies and barbarism were being spread and recorded through that most modern of expressions, social media, with that flag ever-present. It has become a potent symbol of brutality, fear and sexual oppression. If I wanted to try and stimulate a dialogue about the ridiculousness of this ideology, the flag was key...

Chelsea Manning Watch: Poisoned

Chelsea Manning, the US army soldier who released hundreds of thousands of secret documents to WikiLeaks, has filed a lawsuit in a federal court that charges her military jailers with violating her constitutional rights by denying medical treatment for gender dysphoria.

The legal complaint, lodged with a US district court in Washington DC, accuses the army of repeatedly ignoring her pleas for appropriate treatment for her condition. It names as defendants: the secretary of defence Chuck Hagel, major general David Quantock of the army corrections command, and colonel Erica Nelson who commands the disciplinary barracks in Fort Leavenworth, Kansas, where Manning is held.

“Every day that goes by without appropriate treatment, [Manning] experiences escalating anxiety, distress and depression. She feels as though her body is being poisoned by testosterone,” the suit says....

Club Promo Of The Week: Dreck

Nightclub promoters in Tel Aviv have come under fire for mocking the ISIS beheadings of David Haines, James Foley and Steven Sotloff to advertise a gay night.

One advert shows a muscular man kneeling in an orange toga with a man in a revealing black wrap behind him with a hand on his neck.

It is an image strikingly familiar to those that have circulated around the world of an anonymous English-speaking Islamist wielding a knife before going on to behead the innocent hostages in three separate shock videos.

Another shows a man in tight trunks holding a black flag aloft – traditionally a symbol of jihadist extremists.

The adverts were posted to the Facebook page of Dreck – which runs gay club nights across the Israeli city...
