Queerty: Writing Rubbish For a Living

Straight guys, finding a bro-job has never been easier thanks to BRO, a social networking app that caters to heteroflexible dudes seeking bromances… and other things.

“BRO goes beyond using labels, and is for men that are interested in meeting other men,” the description reads. “It’s as simple as that. Just sign up, and start looking for new bros!”

The app allows users to search for potential bros, chat, mark their favorites, and even “Fistbump” one another...

Jane Ward, whose bestselling [sic!] book Not Gay: Sex Between Straight White Men caused a media frenzy [sic!!] last summer, says BRO further supports her theory that straight-identifying men engage in homosexual behaviors a lot more often than people might think...

Aww, Queerty got another press release from someone trying to sell a nonsensical book!*

Jane Ward is a complete fucking fraud.

But yeah, that's right boys, all straight men are really secretly gagging for it.

Why let dull old facts get in the way of your fantasy?

(Wonder if this will last as long as the Every Girl Needs A Gay app)

PS When Fagburn started it was partly inspired by the way Queerty could talk about (gay) politics in a funny, non-boring way, now it's just too crass for words.

* She did email the US gay media about this, offering interviews to push her silly book!

Clinton & Blair: A Fine Bromance

...a BBC freedom of information request sees the declassification of transcripts of meetings and calls between Bill Clinton and Tony Blair, or “bud” and “mate” as they refer to each other.

Despite being heavily redacted, particularly on the Blair side, they illustrate the closeness of the relationship between the two premiers, and it may not shock you to learn that neither is held back by an excess of self-doubt. “The longer you hang around this business,” Clinton rues, “it becomes apparent that very few people make it this far by accident. They don’t just give these jobs away.” ...

Perhaps it’s glib to say in the age of Twitter, where any remotely friendly conversation between people prompts 357 comedians to honk “GET A ROOM”, but for all the speed with which they get down to business, there is often a slightly flirtatious quality to the small talk in the calls between Clinton and Blair. Partly it’s just camaraderie, but maybe in part, too, the famously aphrodisiacal properties of power are so immense that they spill over into even obviously platonic interactions. “You were brilliant,” Blair tells Clinton repeatedly, down the years. “You still have that choirboy look,” Clinton teases. As for how he lost it, that is very much To Be Continued.

Marina Hyde, The Guardian.

Marina rather states the obvious by saying George W Bush was clearly the great love of Blair's (political) life.

PS Nick Duffy at Pink News zooms in on a rather strange 'gay' exchange amongst the redactions.

Patrick Smugtwit: No Shit Sherlock!

Have you noticed Holmes and Watson in TV's hit TV show Sherlock are having a "bromance"?
Probably not - but I have!
But what is a "bromance", I hear you ask.
If you Google it you will discover that it is a combination of two words; "bro" and "romance".
ie It is a romance between bros [ie brothers, but not literally].
Now it has come to my attention that some people think this means that TV's Holmes and Watson are gays!
This is yet another example of HOMOPHOBIA!
Imagine if they said they were black people??!!
No, they are just good friends.
There are many other "bromances" in films and TV at the moment, and I will Google them later and add a list.
How far we have come since the 1970s, when Morecambe and Wise lay side-by-side in bed, watched by a nation so green as to fail to see anything blue.
Even though they did, a sub-editor has added.
And how far we have come since the 1980s, when the homoerotic frisson between the unerringly heterosexual Tom Cruise and Val Kilmer, as Maverick and Iceman in Top Gun, went unacknowledged.
Except by everyone who acknowledged this, you ignoramus, the sub-editor has added.
But what does this all mean?
Well, if you ask me, it shows the times they are a-changing for heterosexual men.
Or as I call them "meterosexuals"!
You could say, it's elementary, my dear Watson!!!
Hahaha!

The ever brilliant and profound Patrick Smugtwit writes.

This thought-provoking piece was written following the virtual controversy when Caitlin Moran asked Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman to read some gaysexy hot Sherlock fanfic at a BFI screening.

Showbiz Gossip: When Harry Met Grimmy (Again)

The One Direction heart-throb has a £3million house in posh Hampstead, London.
But he has given it a swerve since teaming up with the BBC Radio 1 breakfast show host during London Fashion Week.
The pair have been seen beside the catwalks, spending more time gazing at each other than the models.
At night, Harry has been crashing out at 29-year-old Nick’s apartment in trendy Primrose Hill – showing that they have become almost inseparable, night and day...

But in spite of constant rumours the close friends are secretly an item, Harry actually prefers to kip in the spare room with Grimmy’s mutt.
Sources revealed: “He loves cuddling up to little Lex when he stays over. Harry, Nick and the dog wind down together on the couch.”

Let's face it, they're practically fucking!

Update: Or maybe not; Radio 1 DJ Nick Grimshaw has denied that Harry Styles has been staying at his house for the past week. A spokesperson for the 29-year-old told the MailOnline: 'Harry has not stayed at Nick's house once during Fashion Week.' Daily Mail.

Grindr Bromance: No Homo!

'Grindr For Straight Guys? New 'bromance' app helps lonely men 'bond' with strangers (but its maker insists it's NOT for gay dating)'

Who else but The Daily Mail could come up with a convoluted, titillating headline like that?
Funny how the prudish Mail is so fascinated by stuff like this...
The Bromance website says it's "The location-based network for dudes who do dudes'.
First suggested activity: 'Shooting Hoops'.

Sherlock: Feel The Fury

'BBC's Sherlock Holmes Gay Subtext Sparks Fan Fury,' shouts The Daily Star today.
The new three-part series, Sherlock, starts on Sunday and was co-written by Mark Gatiss - the gangly gay one from out of The League of Gentlemen.
He's included a bit of knowing but gentle gay banter between Holmes and "My dear Watson".
Watson; “Do you have a boyfriend? Because that’s fine.”
Holmes; “I am married to my work but I am flattered you like me.”
Shocking stuff, isn't it?
One doesn't need to be a great detective to wonder if there was anything else going on between those "two gentlemen sharing."
The "gay subtext" has never been far from the surface - which is what Gatiss actually seems to be commenting on, the joke is that so many people think that they're a couple.
It was even in Guy Ritchie's recent movie, Sherlock Holmes.
"I think the word 'bromance' is so passé. We are two men who happen to be roommates who wrestle a lot and share a bed,' Robert Downey Jr quipped to David Letterman.
The Daily Star quote Gatiss saying matter-of-factly; "If you don’t like it it’s fine because the character is one of the most filmed ever so there’ll be another one along soon.”
But would this be enough to placate the "fan fury"?
Or more to the point, was there actually any?
The Star tracked down "Holmes fan Peter Stewart, 43, who organises detective book fairs"
He told them: “I don’t like the idea of a Sherlock Homo. That’s certainly not what Sir Arthur had on his mind.”
A line so painfully forced that one might deduce that a journalist had made it up.
Quotes from Sherlock Holmes that might throw some light on this story are legion, but let's go with this one; "Circumstantial evidence is a very tricky thing. It may seem to point very straight to one thing, but if you shift your own point of view a little, you may find it pointing in an equally uncompromising manner to something entirely different."
