Press Release Of The Day: Pride In London

Pride in London today announced some of the performers who will be appearing on the stages in Trafalgar Square and Dean Street on 28th June as well as plans for the Rainbow Fete in Golden Square.

Sinitta and Sam Fox will be bringing their fabulous performance styles and powerful voices to Trafalgar Square and celebrating the #Freedomto entertain. Sinitta will also be taking part in the Parade – so look out for her glamour on one of the 35 floats in this year’s parade!

The fun begins at 1pm, just as the Parade leaves Baker Street. The Drag Queens of London will be making an appearance as well as a very special couple of boys who got engaged on the Pride stage last year and are getting married this summer!

Fresh from Britain’s Got Talent, London’s very own La Voix will appear with the London Gay Big Band at 4.30, followed later by the wonderful Pink Singers.

Trafalgar Square hosts include Dusty O, Dr Christian Jessen, Harry Derbridge [sic] as well as Emma and Chris from the Gaydio breakfast show...

Look out for a big announcement at 6pm on Friday, 20th June. Someone very special is coming to Pride in London 2014!

Pride In London.

Wow! Just WOW!

They've really pulled out all the stops on this one!

Can't wait til 6pm - is it too much to hope that it's Sonia?

NEWSFLASH!!!

Oh well, at least it's someone who's had a hit single this millennium, and who queens under 40 will have heard of.

But how long til Conchita's schlepping round the same gay club circuit as Sam Fox and Sinitta?

Mike Stock: Pop As Pornography

"Pop music in this country is almost completely dominated by American acts who have taken sexualised imagery, dance moves and lyrical content way beyond the limits of decency.
"As far as music is concerned, it has been a slow but unmistakable descent into pornography. Why? Because it's easy. Put some sexualised dancing and scantily-clad females in the video, and get it on the box. Job done..."
"Bring back pop music for young people, expose it on television and drive all this sexually explicit trash back to the stone age where it belongs."

80s has-been Mike Stock wades into the debate du jour with an open letter to Ofcom.
Hardly surprising - Mr Stock (of him, Aitken & Waterman fame) kickstarted this silly "debate" last August with this bizarre outburst;
"These days you can't watch modern stars - like Britney Spears or Lady Gaga - with a two-year-old.
"Ninety-nine per cent of the charts is R 'n' B and 99 per cent of that is soft pornography."
At the risk of repeating myself, here's what I wrote at the time explaining why Mike "Sam Fox" Stock is a hypocrite, a wanker, a fucktard and a total and utter bell-end.
The Mirror's report has just gone online and is but of course illustrated with a photo of Rihanna's crotch and two of Lady Gaga in a see-through dress.
Fagburn's favourite line?
"Stock singled out Nicole Scherzinger's performance on Britain's Got Talent (watch it in the video player below)..."
Please accept their sincerest hypocrisy.
Fuck off Mirror!
Fuck off Mike!

• Purely by happenchance Mike Stock's The Go! Go! Go! Show - "The show 4 kids" - opens at London's Garrick Theatre next month. It sounds like an absolute pile of shit.

Mike Stock: More Songs About Fucking

Several pundits today have picked up on Mike Stock - of Aitken & Waterman fame - BLASTING "Pop charts porn" in a mini-interview with The Daily Mail yesterday.
Let's - hey - take stock of Mike's blast:
"The music industry has gone too far. It's not about me being old fashioned. It's about keeping values that are important in the modern world.
"These days you can't watch modern stars - like Britney Spears or Lady Gaga - with a two-year-old.
"Ninety-nine per cent of the charts is R 'n' B and 99 per cent of that is soft pornography.'
"Kids are being forced to grow up too young. Look at the videos. I wouldn't necessarily want my young kids to watch them.
"I would certainly be embarrassed to sit there with my mum."
So far, so grumpy old git - and all very "Call that music? You can't hear the words. Is that a boy or a girl..."
The Mail contrasted the "innocent" Kylie Minogue - the biggest star from the SAW stable - with "24-year-old Lady Gaga, who burst on to the scene two years ago, has regularly used crude metaphors in her lyrics as well as posing in revealing outfits."
The gaping chasm between the "Innocent 80s" and "Sleazy 2010" is illustrated with the Kylie and Gaga lyrics quoted in the sidebar reproduced above.
Erm, it may be Fagburn's ears playing up, but I'm pretty sure Ms Minogue sings "I was fucked to my very foundations..." in her hit song Shocked, written and produced by Mike Stock with Aitken & Waterman.
One of SAW's tricks/schticks was taking people who were already famous in one field and making a record with them, most successfully with soap stars Kylie and Jason Donovan.
In 1986 they signed 19 year-old Samantha Fox - best known as a soft porn mag and Sun Page 3 topless model - and recorded 'Touch Me (I Want Your Body)' - thankfully there was nothing sexualised about that, nor was there any hint of a pop/porn continuum.
But I digress, let's go back to Mr Stock...
"[Mothers] were quite happy to put their kids in front of the telly to watch Hannah Montana but recently Miley Cyrus [who played Montana] has shown off her maturing body.'
Sayeth The Mail; "He also attacked the launch last week of the Material Girl clothes range by Madonna's 13-year-old daughter Lourdes, which features short skirts and slashed tops."
It's good to have standards.
Though just for the record Fagburn would like to remind you that in 1986 SAW signed one Mandy Smith - a 16 year-old girl who was already famous - and only famous - for "going out" with aging Rolling Stone Bill Wyman when she was just 13.
Her first single for the SAW boys? 'I Just Can't Wait'.
Geddit?
