Dame Alan Bennett: 80 Glorious Years!

Telegraph.

"Life is generally something that happens elsewhere" - Telling Tales.

Happy birthday - thanks for everything (Fagburn actually has a little cry).

The mighty Craig Brown pays fitting tribute (unfortunately it's in the unmighty Daily Mail).

Nicholas Hytner interviews Alan, BBC 4, Saturday 9pm - it clashes with Eurovision, sorry - followed by some episodes of Talking Heads.
BBC AB website with TV and radio archive, photos, and even some delicious recipes.

PS And here's Hytner on Bennett. Good to see his friend, neighbour and longtime collaborator sticking up for him.

  1. I watched the Hytner interview last night. It was pretty good, but there was a bit too much from Hytner and not enough from Bennett, really. The language was a bit colourful pre-10pm, plenty reference to penis and blow-jobs from rent boys, etc.
Also, two Talking Heads afterwards: the Alan Bennett and Maggie Smith ones, which were awesome. Tonight they're showing An Englishman Abroad with the excellent bumdalar Alan Bates as the excellent bumdalar Guy Burgess.
They're showing the Patricia Routledge Talking Heads on Tuesday followed by '102 Boulevard Haussmann', about Proust, also starring Alan Bates!
    Bonzer!
