Facts don't matter. And that's the truth! FACT!
If you had a daughter who'd done something you didn't like, would you talk to her, or write a letter and post it online?
Also, why are these "heart-warming" "so brave" etc "letters" always handwritten, does anyone still do that?
PS No, I can't prove this isn't real - just like I can't "prove" god doesn't exist. My point is this has "gone viral" without anyone checking it's real - which is easier and actually possible.
I thought this was bollocks when I read it on Queerty earlier. The daughter didn't become homophobic overnight. If she is, it's more than likely from the atmosphere she grew up in. The letter reads like the sort of crap someone with an eye on the media would come up with. It reeks of bullshit.
ReplyDeleteNot saying that this letter is or is not real but neither my brother or I were raised to be homophobic, more in the line of mind ya own, but my brother is extremely homophobic and I'm exactly the opposite. Over the years I've dragged my mother further and further across my side of the line. If such a situation occurred with my niece or nephew, this would pretty much be exactly our response, and my brother has been told that.
DeleteI doubt very much that anyone over 40 would consciously weave the meme 'born this way' to any narrative. I would.ove to be wrong of course.

wow, I'll be 45 in about 2 weeks and I did not feel that old until I read this comment. by the way I both have and absolutely would reference 'born this way' into a narrative about homophobia. after all, I'm trying not to be a drag, just a queen.
DeleteTBH that does not strike me as the handwriting of someone old enough to be a grandfather of a teenager, compounded by the idea that he would write an important letter to his daughter in a graph paper notebook instead of by email or on proper stationery. And who is supposed to have scanned it?
