Manic Street Preacher: But I Read It In The Bible!

"Two gay men were told they were "sinners" who would "burn in hell" by a Christian street preacher in Taunton, a court has heard.
"Michael Overd, 47, from Creech St Michael, is accused of verbally abusing Craig Manning and Craig Nichol last July in the town's high street.
"Mr Overd denies two charges of using threatening words or behaviour.
"His defence told Taunton Magistrates' Court his client was merely reciting a passage from the Bible..."

BBC News Somerset.
It's a fair point - the Bible does quite clearly say gayers should be put to death.
I hope they don't throw the (good) book at him.
Compare and contrast to this today...

"Three Derby Muslim men are due for sentencing after becoming the first to be convicted of stirring up hatred on the grounds of sexual orientation after they handed out a leaflet calling for gay people to be executed.
"Ihjaz Ali, Kabir Ahmed and Razwan Javed gave out the pamphlet, entitled The Death Penalty?, which showed an image of a mannequin hanging from a noose and quoted Islamic texts that said capital punishment was the only way to rid society of homosexuality.
"The men, who are all from Derby, admitted distributing the leaflet but said they were simply quoting and following what their religion teaches about homosexuality and did not intend to threaten anyone..."

Press Association.

As far as I know, no-one has ever been prosecuted for leaving Gideon Bibles in hotel rooms.
A religious nutter is a religious nutter, a hate-filled bigot is a hate-filled bigot, and a cunt is a cunt.
Fagburn wonders how the sentences will differ, and how different the reaction will be.

Update: One of the Derby men got two years, the other two got 15 months. BBC News.
Does anyone think this will make anti-gay Islamic fundamentalist cunts want to treat gay men better?
Or just the opposite?

"British justice has turned show trials into a blood sport, as most recently with the August riots, the petty charge for which Chris Huhne has been humiliated and now the Redknapp case..."

Simon Heffer writing somewhat presciently in today's Guardian.

Update2: And the street preacher was cleared! BBC News.
Here's (alleged) wifebeating loon Stephen Green of Christian Voice's verdict.
Rejoice rejoice! etc.

Hmm, now call me stupid, but saying someone will 'burn in hell' is of a different degree to actually calling for someone to be killed.

    Is it not?

The christian nutter was unpleasant. The muslim nutters were frightening.

They will all be punished according to the severity of the offence.
