Iran: The First Casualty

'Iran set to execute 18-year-old on false charge of sodomy,' The Observer reports.
Well the charge may be false, but the charge is rape.
Headlines are often written using as short words as possible - this may be the first instance that a sub has used a three syllable word in place of a (more accurate) one syllable word.
Still what do silly little things like facts matter when you're reporting about Iran?
Funny how stories like this get prominence whenever a war starts looming.
Think I'm being hysterical? Here's a simple test conducted by MediaLens in 2007.

On December 18, we analysed the UK national press over the last 20 years searching for ‘gay rights’ and ‘Iran’.
We found 79 mentions - 56 of these have been since the March 2003 invasion of Iraq:

2007 - 14
2006 - 9
2005 - 9
2004 - 19
2003 - 6 (5 post-invasion, 1 pre-invasion)
2002 - 2
2001 - 3
2000 - 1
1999 - 1
1998 - 2
1997 - 2
1996 - 1
1995 - 1
1994 - 5
1993 - 0
1992 - 1
1991 - 0
1990 - 0
1989 - 1
1988 - 2
