EastEnders: Dotty

Dot decided that she wouldn't attend the wedding of her old friend Colin Russell, who returned to the show last night.

"I've been invited to a friend's wedding. I can't go. I want to go but it isn't right. They shouldn't be getting married," she said.

Sonia Fowler, who is a lesbian and unaware of what Dot meant, said that she really ought to be there for her friend's big day...

Particularly hilarious as June Brown has gatecrashed every gay wedding in Britain ever, fag in hand (pun intended).

EastEnders: Slight Return

LORD Michael Cashman is to reprise his role as EastEnders’ first gay character Colin Russell as he returns to the soap after 30 years.

Cashman, 65, is to make a brief return to Walford in a story line that bosses are staying tight-lipped about – but his visit to Albert Square will involve Dot Cotton.

Cashman starred as Colin Russell from 1986 to 1989 and shortly after making his debut, he found himself in a relationship with Barry Clark, played by Gary Hailes, which saw them have the first gay kiss in a British soap opera – and on primetime television...

“Arguably without EastEnders I would never have gone into politics; I would not have been one of the founders of Stonewall and its founding chair, and I would never have ended up where I am now."

The Sun.

So now you know who to blame.

EastEnders: Young Gay Man's Head Transplant Declared A Success

EastEnders are bringing back Danny Dyer's on-screen son Johnny Carter with hunky new actor Ted Reilly playing the role.

Johnny Carter, played by Sam Strike, came out as gay on the soap before leaving to “go travelling” with his boyfriend and made his last appearance in December 2014.

Now Johnny will return back on screen next month, only this time he will be played by Ted.

Ted is a rising star, having appeared in a number of London theatre productions as well as TV dramas including Call The Midwife, Casualty and Grantchester...

Mirror.

Preferred the older - ie younger - one.

Is there anyone, apart from journalists, who actually uses the word 'hunky'?

PS It's pretty obvious Sam Strike quit the role as he thought the plotlines for the young gay character, post his coming out, were beyond lame.

EastEnders: I Don't Believe I'm Hearing This!

Actor Harry Reid wants his EastEnders character to be "honest with his sexuality" in 2016.
The 23-year-old star plays sexually confused Ben Mitchell in the BBC One soap and he is hoping his alter ego will finally be honest with girlfriend Abi Branning (Lorna Fitzgerald) about his secret sex sessions with Albert Square resident Paul Coker (Jonny Labey).
He said: "Expect more feelings to emerge between Ben and Paul. I'd like Ben to finally be honest about his sexuality.
"And I'd love to see how Abi would react - I think she'd hit the roof."...

Mirror.

Cause you can never have enough tortured coming out storylines in British soaps...

That 'negative media response' in full - one silly tweet from the Yorkshire Post!
Everyone seems over the Michael Moon about this, silly.

Even Mail Online readers.

EastEnders: Funeral Games

An EastEnders sex scene involving secret gay couple Ben Mitchell and Paul Coker will not be investigated further by Ofcom, despite a huge uproar on social media.

The watchdog received 76 complaints after the episode was aired a few weeks ago.

In the scene, the characters, played by Harry Reid and Jonny Labey, kissed next to an open coffin and were later seen getting dressed.

Ofcom said it assessed the complaints but 'concluded they didn't raise issues warranting further investigation'.

Its decision continued: 'We found the scenes were justified in the context of a long-running plotline and sexual contact between the characters was implied rather than overt.

'Our rules don't discriminate between scenes involving opposite-sex and same-sex couples.'

Twitter was awash with shocked comments from viewers criticising the storyline, branding it 'disgraceful and distasteful'.

'Having sex in a room with a dead body, oh #eastenders', one social media user wrote, while another posted, 'Well. Wasn't expecting to watch #Eastenders tonight and see a dead body in a coffin.. Thanks for that #horrible'.

A third fan raged, 'Catching up on #Eastenders - Did I really just see 2 blokes making out in a room with a dead woman laying in a coffin? #BBC do need saving!'

A BBC spokesman hit back at the claims at the time, saying: 'The millions of regular EastEnders fans who tune in each week know and expect dramatic storylines.

'We are always mindful of out time slot in which we are shown and the scenes in question were implied and not explicit.'

In the same episode Ben was arrested on suspicion of killing Lucy Beale in a dramatic police showdown.

Earlier in the evening, the sexually-confused teen, forgetting all about his girlfriend Abi Branning, was seen stripping off with hairdresser Paul in the heat of the moment in front of Mrs Birch's unwitting corpse.

Their romp was interrupted by Paul's grandparents listening at the door to see if he was still styling the body's hair.

'Best knock first. I wouldn't want to put him off his stroke,' Les Coker declared. 'I think he must be finishing off.'

Daily Mail.

MEGALOLZ!

Mail readers were divided.

Said tinytum; 'soaps are supposed to reflect real life,,,who do you know who has done this,,,,i no longer watch any of them, its all drugs,,sex,,gay ness..etc,,,,sorry but most people do not live like that,,,,,,,,we have lost our way'

But adamb commented; 'Really? People got offended at this? What sad lives they must lead.'

EastEnders: LOL!

EastEnders fans were shocked when the BBC soap aired a gay sex scene in a funeral parlour on Friday.

TV watchdog Ofcom received 48 complaints from the public over the weekend after Ben Mitchell (Harry Reid) was seen getting frisky with Paul Coker (Jonny Labey) in front of an open coffin containing a dead woman's body.

An Ofcom spokesperson confirmed to MailOnline: 'We will assess these complaints before deciding whether to investigate or not.' ...

EastEnders: What Would Ronnie Kray Say?

'It's upsetting to read the negative tweets about the gay kiss in last night's episode of @bbceastenders, I only want to ask one question. Would you of called Ronnie Kray disgusting? #whatwouldronniesay'

Probably not, Ronnie Kray famously killed a man who called him a 'fat poof'.

My kinda guy.

EastEnders: Eastbenders More Like

A bloke has snogged another bloke on the hit BBC soap opera.

Someone went on Twitter and said they didn't like it.

Here endeth today's important news.

Sam Strike: Out

Sam Strike became an instant hit with EastEnders fans when he arrived as Johnny Carter at Christmas 2013, but his time on Albert Square proved relatively short after the young actor decided to bow out following a one-year stint.

Little has been known about Sam's reasons for leaving until now, but this week he gave Digital Spy a call for an exclusive and refreshingly honest chat about his soap exit and future plans. ...

Johnny made an impact on the fans very quickly thanks to his 'coming out' scene with Mick. Are you proud of the work you did on that?

"Well that's the thing - I'm sure the writers and the people in the office had a lot more to give to Johnny, and it's an ensemble effort so everyone's got to get their bit, but I kind of feel like Johnny peaked quite early with that.

"Don't get me wrong, though - I was totally happy and really lucky to be given that storyline, as it was an opportunity to impress the viewers as soon as I went in. That was a blessing and I really appreciated that. It was a really nice thing to have. Also, they had that storyline written before they'd even cast me. I was really grateful for the fact that they trusted me to pull something like that off before they knew what I could do."

Digital Spy.

Could be reading too much into this, but is Sam saying the EastEnders scriptwriters went; 'Right, storyline for a gay teen, he hasn't told his family - it's agony. Big emotional coming out scene with dad. Then after he's come out... err?'

Anyway, you're a top lad, best of luck, mate.

Shane Richie: One In Seven

The EastEnders star, who plays loveable rogue Alfie Moon on the Walford soap, offended several members of reunited band S Club 7 in a lift.

Waiting for people to enter the lift, Shane reportedly said: "Hurry up! Last person in is a gay!"

The three members of S Club 7 who were in the lift - Tina Barrett, Jo O’Meara and Hannah Spearritt - clearly didn't appreciate the quip.

Jon Lee, one of the seven, came out as gay to the Gay Times in 2010. A representative for S Club 7 told BBC bosses they weren't prepared to take part in the CHildren in Need quiz alongside Shane, resulting in him being culled.

The Sun have reported a 'source' close to Shane has confirmed he made the comment, but denied it was meant to be offensive.

The source said: "The comments were clearly meant as a joke."

Daily Express.

Can't believe I'm 'earing this!

It was a joke FFS!

Michael Cashman Watch: And Tomorrow The World!

You know we have made extraordinary progress on Lesbian and Gay rights over the last twenty years. If I think about the transformation that I have seen growing up into adulthood, the biggest transformation.

We’ve made such progress on equality. But we have to face the fact that internationally things are, if anything, going backwards. We can’t just let that happen. We can’t just say “well, that’s OK”. The next Labour government will fight to make sure that we fight for our values and for human rights all round the world.

So today I can announce that I am appointing Michael Cashman, Lord Cashman, as our envoy on LGBT rights all round the world...

From Ed Miliband's speech to the Labour Party conference yesterday.

Good grief, I wouldn't even trust Lord Cashman of Brown-nose to be LGBT envoy to Walford Square.
Sorry about this world.

PS There's a programme on BCC Radio 4 Extra on Friday, Pioneers, where Mr Cashman recalls the 1987, Eastenders gay kiss fiasco.

EastEnders: NOOOO!!!!

Earlier this year, writers were shocked to receive complaints from viewers
[Actually just a couple of twats from the Christian Institute] who were uncomfortable with their display of homosexual relationships.

Thankfully, the BBC are refusing to bend to the moaners' will as character Johnny Carter puckers up with a fella he got close to at Gay Pride celebrations.

The Albert Square teen could face a dilemma after falling for a new man who promptly packs up and leaves to heads home to Italy
[Eh?].

Viewers will see Danny Dyer's on screen son, played by Sam Strike, meet Gianluca, played by Gabriele Lombardo, in the colourful parade thrown by London's gay community.

Instantly smitten with the hunk, he introduces him to the rest of his family.

The pair share a passionate kiss at the station, before Gianluca returns to France with Johnny claiming that he wants to follow him...

Daily Star.

Loving the use of 'fella' and 'hunk' - when have you ever heard someone use them in real life? #journalese.

TV: Whatever Happened To The Likely Queens?

A couple of years ago I sat in the audience for a panel discussion on queer representation in entertainment; the presentation included a breezy tour through the gay history of the media, complete with Powerpoint slides of Rosie, Ellen and old People magazines from when you needed to be on the cover of something to come out. The overview was greeted warmly, until we got to Will and Grace, where one of the show's characters, Jack McFarland, proved a sticking point. Jack, a sassy sidekick whose flamboyance towed the line between camp and parody, has long been a lightning rod of discussion in the community. You could feel that discomfort in the room.

Our tour guide diffused the tension by reminding the mostly-male audience that Jack might be a stereotype, but many of us know a Jack in real life. The audience laughed with delight and recognition. They nodded to friends as if to say, "Oh, yes. That's true." What he didn't say is that many of us are Jacks, but I wondered how many people would laugh at that statement...

Whatever Happened To TV's Flamboyant Gay Men? - an excellent article by Nico Lang for PolicyMic.

Arguing; "The recent television movement has been a push toward post-gay representation, creating male characters who just happen to be gay."

And that's called sad.

I'm wondering how true this is of British TV.

Seems to be a split between the real queens (eg anyone with their own chat show), and the straight-acting acted gay men (eg the distinct lack of gay nelliness in EastEnders).

Can I get back to you on this?

Danny Dyer: 'Ow's Yer Father (Dealing With His Son's Coming Out)?

Danny Dyer has revealed how proud he is to be a part of EastEnders' gay storyline, saying it has changed people's perception of him.

The hardman actor, who joined the BBC soap at Christmas, has been involved in a plot that saw his on-screen son come out.

“It was a real positive thing,” said Danny on this weekend's Jonathan Ross Show.

Speaking about the fan mail he has received since the scenes aired, the actor admits it has touched him.

“A lot of young gay men, who hadn’t come out yet, they saw that scene and I was getting letters from these guys saying they came out the next day because of it.

"That’s a powerful thing and I was really proud to be associated with that.”

Dyer thinks that storyline has gone a long way in changing how people see him, thanks to his character Mick Carter's reaction.

He explained: “ They spun it on the head for me, because obviously my perception and what people think I’m about – that I was going to react badly - and instead I just cuddled him and said, ‘Listen, it’s fine, I love you, no problem.’”

Daily Mirror.

Fagburn loved the coming out scene.

And I have a lot of time for professional cheeky chappie Cockney geezer, Danny Dyer.

He's worked with Harold Pinter, you know?

HAVE YOU!!???
