'Everyone there seemed really nice actually... I think the three year mandatory army service for citizens does wonders on all their bodies.' |
Fortunately, she took a moment out of her busy jet-set schedule and graced us with some highlights of why she thinks Tel Aviv, the center of LGBT life in the Middle East, is such a spectacular place...
• Everyone there seemed really nice actually. They like to talk and are 100 percent cool with LGBT folks. Totally Westernized in that sense.
• The men are beyond compare. I think the three year mandatory army service for citizens does wonders on all their bodies.
Queerty - these are but edited racist Orientalist state power fetishising highlights.
One of three puff pieces on Tel Aviv they ran last week.
North Korea has mandatory military service of 5 years. Perhaps they can go there to fetishize and ogle the locals.

ReplyDelete- Told this to my Israeli husband and he killed himself laughing. That is so obviously a comment made by someone who has never come near doing military service and/or learnt everything about military service from porn. Sorry to destroy the illusion (well, actually I'm not sorry), but just like everywhere else we can thank hours in the gym and steroids for the hot bodies on Tel Aviv's beach. You're so correct there about state power fetishing. And Israel, like pretty much anywhere else in the world, is not '100 per cent cool with LGBT folks'.
Re Pinkwashing, many (though not all) Israeli gays are pissed off about this as Netanyahu and his right-wing Likud and other nutjobs love using the gays to say how wonderful and enlightened Israel is when their actual contribution to supposedly making this so has been a big fat zero. Netanyahu's Likud and the other right-wing parties regularly vote against any new pro-LGBT draft legislation. We have the pro-peace, left-wing Meretz (the only party in the Knesset to have had openly gay parliamentarians) to thank for their hard work, but being pro-peace and left-wing Meretz has been completely sidelined of late for being 'traitors'.
Oh...............
