Gay Bars: At The Gay Bar, Gay Bar, Gay Bar!

Brief summary:

With the advent of gay marriage in Britain, and many countries moving towards total legal equality, is there still a need for gay bars, asks Elizabeth Hotson...

What gay spaces will look like in 20, 30 or 40 years time is anyone's guess, but chances are, they'll still be there.

Thankfully not quite as patronising as that headline might suggest (even if the article suggests gay men appeared - as if by magic - in the 17th century).

But must (presumably) straight people describe and define gay men's lives?

Gay journalists do a hopeless enough job of it, as it is.

  1. It seems very patronising to me. Why would gay marriage threaten gay bars more than cheap alcohol in supermarkets that is closing so many traditional pubs? Chalk another one up to silly posh person writes article on subject she knows nothing about.
