Tom Of Finland: Icon Of Gay

As ever, any journalist that uses the moronic term 'gay icon' should have their fingers broken, lest they be allowed near a keyboard again..

Here it's a bit surreal.

Tom Of Finland: The Official Movie.

Protagonist Pictures has come on board to handle worldwide sales on Dome Karukoski’s latest project “Tom of Finland,” with shooting set for Gothenberg, Sweden, in the spring.

Aleksi Bardy wrote the screenplay, which tells the life story of Touko Laaksonen, a man who would become known around the world by his nom de guerre “Tom of Finland.”

The cast of the film will be announced at a Feb. 14 news conference during the Berlin Film Festival.

The story centers on Laaksonen returning home to Helsinki a hero after a harrowing and eventful military service in World War II. He is persecuted for his homosexuality, trapped in secret affairs and pressured to get married to a woman. He discovers refuge and liberation in his art, specializing in homoerotic drawings of muscular men in sexually uninhibited situations, develops a worldwide following and helps fan the flames of a gay revolution in the U.S.

“This is the story of a man ahead of his time, bravely standing up against a world virulently against his right to be who he was – a homosexual man with homosexual fantasies,” stated Karukoski. “The story shows how literally one person can create change in the world, even with something as simple as an artist’s tools.” ...

Variety.

Should have been a cartoon really...

PS Think this is the formerly unauthorized film - there's a teaser for it here.

Finland: Off With Their Heads!

Ah, what better way to illustrate this heart-warming story for many a Tom and Tom of Finland, than with yet another photo of a happy gay couple with their heads chopped off?

Well played, The Independent, well played!

Tom Of Finland: Stamps Of Finland

In September-October 2014, Itella Posti will release seven new sets of stamps, containing a total of 33 new designs. It is a great collection to choose from; the subjects of the new stamps include male drawings by Tom of Finland, autumnal yard and garden scenes painted by Urpo Martikainen, and Jaakko Tähti's photos of Finnish bridges. Other subjects for the end-of-the-year stamps include signs of sky and the change in everyday Finland - and, of course, Christmas.

Apparently this is an actual thing.

Can anyone verify this?

Meanwhile, back in the USA, the postal office show slightly more decorum...

Update: This 'gay stamps' story became quite a thing. I don't like to endlessly go on about how hopeless many journalists are, but, by way of but one example, type 'Tom Finland' into Google News and see how it took three to four days for both the gay and straight media to notice this was happening.

I do this as a hobby, why can't you do your job?

The Independent: Ditto Wank

Does art have the power to shock any more? I ask as the ICA in London opens an exhibition of what it terms "sexually graphic" drawings. They are technically interesting, but leave me unshocked.
Sex, I believe, no longer shocks, whether it is portrayed on canvas, simulated on stage or even acted out on film. Nudity has long since ceased to have any shock value. Ditto gay art. Ditto swearing.

The Independent continues to bore for Britain.

PS This is the third article The Independent has run on this apparently boring exhibition - all illustrated à la the Daily Mail with pictures of Tom Of Finland and his big cock fun gang - which clearly is of no interest to anyone. Ever.

Phrase Of The Day: "Manny Fagnet"

"It’s not very PC, but if anyone has a more succinct phrase to describe a straight man who attracts gay males than “manny fagnet”, then please write in without delay."

Carol Midgley, in The Times.
Well???
