“[Antony Hegarty] said, ‘Do you realise what you did for little gay children like me all over the world?’ That’s a big responsibility, which I wasn’t really conscious of back in the day. I wasn’t on some political mission, I was just being myself, having a hoot, putting another wig on. Whereas, now, I do feel like I have a responsibility. I feel like in certain moments I’ve been a terrible example of how to be a gay man in public, and I feel like — you know what? — I’ve got a chance to redress that now. Culture Club was a magical thing for a lot of people in the early 1980s. We changed the sexual landscape in a very subtle way and I really thought, ‘Oh, wow, people are just going to be really cool from now on,’ but now they’re not.”

Thought For The Day: Antony Hegarty

"Future Feminist Foundation is not a group that thinks women should just crawl towards economic equality in the way we have been engaged in since the 60s. That can't be the climax of feminism.
"It's like gay rights, as if gay marriage is the end point, as if we just want to be included in these business-as-usual institutions. That's not the point of being queer, just as mitigated reproductive rights aren't the point of being a woman.
"We want to move this forward. Do something great... overturn all these failed male structures of thinking, all this aggression in decision-making."

Kazuo Ohno: Cosmic Dancer

"As a teenager in 1987, I stumbled across an image of Ohno on a peeling poster in the streets of Angers in north-west France. Captivated by this mysterious portrait, I placed the picture above my bed, where it has remained to this day. As I discovered more about the artist and his work, Ohno's dance and philosophy became a source of great inspiration to me.
