Cakegate: Shocking

It’s hard to believe that something like this is still happening in 2015.

Located in the heart of Saudi Arabia’s capital city of Riyadh, Jawad’s Cakes has been delighting customers with baked goods for years—or at least, those customers it chooses to serve. Even today, the bigoted Middle Eastern bakery refuses to make cakes for gay weddings.

Yup. You didn’t misread that. The bakery’s official policy is to straight up refuse service to gay customers just because they’re gay. In America, we have a word for that: discrimination. And it’s wrong.

So, how is this place justifying these discriminatory practices? By claiming that serving wedding cakes to gay customers conflicts with their religious beliefs. Seriously. That’s what they ACTUALLY said. It’s like something out of the 19th century.

But is the government of Saudi Arabia doing anything about it? Nope. They’re just letting it happen. In fact, the government has maintained that the bakery has a right to do this under the law. So, just to clarify, apparently in 2015, you can blatantly discriminate against people based on their sexual orientation and the government will stand behind you.

Shameful.

Satire gold!
