Alan Turing: Secrets And Lies

Alan Turing had two big secrets: the first, which he shared with the other scientists and codebreakers at Bletchley Park, was the cracking of the Enigma code that hastened the end of the Second World War; the second, which he shared only with his sexual partners, was his homosexuality.

The first secret was eventually hailed as a public triumph, in which Turing had played a crucial part; the second was a private tragedy, which destroyed Turing, leading to his prosecution for gross indecency, chemical castration and death, probably by self-poisoning...
