Ever wondered why right-wing ideologues keep banging on about the family and championing "family values"?
In a brilliantly barking piece of conspiracy theorizing - 'David Cameron has caved in to those waging war against the family', written in response to a call to give co-habitating couples some of the same rights as married couples - Peter Oborne, the Daily Telegraph's chief political commentator, argues that attacks on the family are a communist plot - and it's all the fault of that loony lefty Jesus Christ.

'It is a curious fact that all revolutionary movements, from Christianity to the Bolsheviks, have been viscerally hostile to the family. The most troubling part of the gospels concerns Jesus’s remark that: “I am come to set a man at variance against his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter in law against her mother in law.” For a believer such as myself, this comment is terribly difficult to explain.
'Eighteen centuries later, Karl Marx viciously condemned in the Communist Manifesto what he called “the bourgeois clap-trap about the family and education, about the hallowed co-relation of parent and child”. All this, he grimly predicted, “will vanish as a matter of course” come the revolution.

Mr Oborne then proceeds to trace a distinctly wobbly line from Marx to David Cameron, who he exposes as some kind of latter day Manchurian Candidate.
