Scotland: Church Says Yes (But No)

For much of yesterday evening BBC News was leading with two different gay stories - almost certainly a first.
After leading with all that palaver over the Marriage Bill, came the Church of Scotland's General Assembly voting to allow "actively" (tee hee-hee etc etc) gay men and women to become ministers.
Err, except they didn't.
I've read several reports of what they've actually done, and the person who explained it most clearly was a spokesbot for their more bigoted rivals, the Free Church of Scotland, who told STV;

"The winning motion says that it affirms the historic doctrine of the Church, which is of course opposed to the ordination of ministers in same-sex relationships.
"Yet at the same time the motion permits congregations to call ministers in same-sex relationships. The whole thing is totally confusing.
"We don't understand what's going on in the Church of Scotland, and suspect the vast majority of the Scottish public don't have a Scooby either."

Confused, confusing, hypocritical, nonsensical, antediluvian, and more barking than Lothian Dogs Home - but would you expect anything less from a bunch of Christians?

"It vexes me greatly to say so in public, but at such a time as this, there seems no alternative but to speak up. The behaviour of our brothers, the Roman Catholic Bishops in recent days, has been so unpleasant and so ill judged that it risks harming the good influence of the whole Christian community.

"To behave as though bishops carry some kind of block vote to Holyrood, to threaten politicians and to decry those who want access to the dignity of marriage as unnatural…. to say these things seems to me to go too far.

"Such comments from the leaders of the Roman Catholic church have left me feeling embarrassed as a Christian. There is a risk that all of the churches will appear to be out of touch, arrogant, conceited and rude. We don’t all have to agree but we are all called to behave charitably and there has been an absence of love in this relentlessly bitter campaign and it diminishes us all."

The Archbishop of Glasgow, Mario Conti, is writing to all 500 Catholic parishes in Scotland, urging them to sign a declaration in defence of marriage apartheid.
Unfortunately for Conti 57% of Catholics in Scotland say they support same-sex marriage.
