Young Thug: No Homo

Just wait one minute!

Earlier this week a video popped up on IG of Young Thug in the studio with his crew chillin’ while gay porn played on the TV in the background. Today, Thugger’s producers Beatmonster Marc and London on Da Track attempted to correct the rumors by blasting a popular blog via Twitter and said they were watching an episode of Empire.

I don’t know about you but I never caught that scene. The video has since been deleted but they continue to deny the accusations.

The Guardian: Gay Hip Hop (Don't Stop!)

The Guardian has published yet another article about gay men and Hip-hop on their music blog.

As you can see ^^^ this is a source of endless fascination for them.

But why?

Because they think it's so incongruous?

Because they think black culture and gay culture are mutually exclusive?

Because they think black people hate gay people and vice versa?

Because they don't have a clue?

The Guardian are far from alone in this, of course.

An out rapper - no matter if he's not actually any good - is practically guaranteed to get coverage - and gushing with it - in the gay and straight media, patronised and paraded before us as an exotic, heroic curiosity, a modern day Elephant Man.

Gay Rap: Clap Trap

Wow, no-one's ever done that before.
Apart from all the other 127,023 articles.
The moment I wake up, before I put on my make-up, I say a little prayer that someone has written another thing about gay rappers.
IS IT THE LAST TABOO???
IS THIS THE MOST BORING ARTICLE EVER WRITTEN??
Is there anything interesting left to say about this?
Evidently not.
I'm just thrilled to mintballs by the seeming incongruity of a gay rapper - not to mention the usual in-no-way racist subtext that black people must hate The Gays.
Anyway, let's interview some inconsequential people you've never heard of!
In summary: "Frank Ocean #sobrave Missy Elliot probably a lesbian will there ever be a rainbow blah blah blah who do I send my invoice to?"
Editor: "Well, that's this week's patronising and predictable coverage about both gay men and black people done in one fell swoop. Phew!"
Zzzzz....

Update: Didn't know when I typed this the Guardian Guide thought this Ryvita-slight piece warranted putting on the front cover - have changed the image.
I think only a homo-clueless straight person could think this unoriginal fluff was of any interest to anyone.

Lion Adair: Gay Is Okay (Ben)

This is currently being touted as "the world's first pro-gay Rap song" - which it isn't.
But it's still rare enough to be noteworthy.
I thought it would be quite awful - that trite title hardly gets your hopes up, does it? - but it's actually quite good.
Samples Michael Jackson's Ben, one of the first male-to-male love songs to chart; though the male was Michael's pet rat.
You could nitpick over some of the 'Born This Way'-esque glib arguments in the lyrics, but I won't here.
I thought the ending of the video and the last lyrics were really moving.

Lil B: I'm Gay

"I'm gonna do the most controversial thing in Hip Hop. Ya'll heard it first. And I'ma just show you that words don't mean shit. I'ma make an album called 'I'm Gay,' right.
"Now I'ma tell you why I'm the first person to do it in Hip Hop and why you're the first people to know my reasons, I'm just gonna tell you. So many people be worried about what people mean and definitions of words and shit... Now I like women, I love women, you feel me. But within yourselves, no matter what you do, it doesn't matter, it's like live life. You've only got one life to live. Be happy."

Lil B announces his - alleged - new album title live onstage at Coachella.
More and watch it here.
