Alec Baldwin: Goodbye Public Life

Now I loathe and despise the media in a way I did not think possible. I used to engage with the media knowing that some of it would be adversarial, but now it’s superfluous at best and toxic at its worst. If MSNBC went off the air tomorrow, what difference would it make? If the Huffington Post went out of business tomorrow, what difference would it make? Arianna Huffington accomplished what she wanted to accomplish. She created this wonderful thing. And what have they done with that? They want clicks, I get it. They’ve gotta have clicks for their advertisers, so they’re going to need as much Kim Kardashian and wardrobe malfunctions as possible. The other day, they had a thing on the home page about pimples. Tripe. Liberal and conservative media are now precisely equivalent.

I’m aware that it’s ironic that I’m making this case in the media—but this is the last time I’m going to talk about my personal life in an American publication ever again.

From a very, very long open letter on Vulture by Alec Baldwin, following accusations of homophobia - or rather of using homophobic language - last year, "by Andrew Sullivan, Anderson Cooper, and others in the Gay Department of Justice".

He's kinda right. Seems you can't say a bad word - like 'queen' FFS!!? - without the pink witch-hunters lighting their torches.

NB He doesn't say he's retiring, as some have claimed.

Joan Rivers On Alec Baldwin: Relax!

"Everybody just relax... and everybody stop getting so damned uptight!"?

Uh-oh Joan, the knee-jerk gay hysterics and the pink thought police won't like that, YOU NOTORIOUS HOMOPHOBE!!!

Breaking! Alec Baldwin's MSNBC TV show is cancelled! He blames "the fundamentalist wing of gay advocacy". Though this decision may have more to do with the fact that the ratings were atrocious and his co-workers thought he was a cnut.

Alec Baldwin: A Few Words From A Real Live Cocksucking Fag

Ultimately, if you aren't virulently homophobic and simply made a mistake, I don't think you should be paraded out to the stocks and humiliated or punished. That doesn't change people; it just makes them angrier or more bitter or helps them miss the point entirely because they're so blinded by and busy deflecting the heat of the rage they're receiving. But you should be held accountable for what you say and do (especially if you seem to have an anger-management problem and your go-to slur of choice always seems to be a homophobic one).

I just want people to start thinking twice about what they're saying and why. Words do have meaning. Words are important. Words make things happen. And they have consequences. We can push for equality and pass all the laws we want in hopes of achieving it, but as long as terms like "cocksucking fag" are used against us or to shame anyone -- queer or not -- we will never truly be liberated, because the underlying attitudes and assumptions we're operating with will still be inherently homophobic.

So let's grow up, give it up and spend our energy sucking cock instead of talking about it. I promise it's a lot more fun, and it's much less likely that anyone will get hurt.

Noah Michelson, Huff Post Gay Voices.

Good piece - although this seems like another over-hyped pink pearl-clutching row that's got way out of hand - anyway I hope this will be the end of this matter...

Alec Baldwin: Leave George Stark Alone!

Alec Baldwin has gone on an extraordinary homophobic Twitter rant, threatening a MailOnline reporter over a story published about his wife Hilaria Baldwin.
The 55-year-old actor has since deleted his entire Twitter account.
The shocking outburst came after MailOnline claimed that his 32-year-old yoga instructor wife had broadcast a series of upbeat tweets about shopping for a wedding anniversary present and fruit smoothies during Sopranos star James Gandolfini's funeral on Thursday.
Baldwin, 55, and his wife categorically deny doing any such thing.
In a series of poisonous tweets, the father-of-one repeatedly threatened reporter George Stark with violence.
He said: 'I'm gonna find you George Stark, you toxic little queen, and I'm gonna f*** you... up.'
'If put my foot up your f*****g a**, George Stark, but I'm sure you'd dig it too much.
'My wife and I attended a funeral to pay our respects to an old friend, and some toxic Brit write this f*****g trash.'

Mail Online.

Fagburn will be more than happy to give George a character reference.
He's lovely - yes, he's a bit little and as queeny as they come - prone to singing Leona Lewis songs when he thinks no-one's watching, for example - but not toxic.
And at least he's not a cantankerous old drunk, unlike some people I could mention.
Thank you.

Update: Leading gay intellectual Patrick Strudwick writes on this for Guardian online.
It was homophobic, apparently.
So why has no-one else noticed this, but Patrick Smugtwit!!?
Satire rims itself.
